What would you accessorize a black dress with for a wedding?

I am going to a wedding in Feb next year and there will definately be snow or slush on the ground as I live in Finland.

I have the black ribbon dress from Monsoon which has a corset and a full 50s style calf length net skirt with a floral ribbon design all over. It has loops on the waist to add a ribbon belt. As it will be cold I also have a nice Laura Ashley back wool coat to wear outside and it has flecks in the wool which sparkle and catch the light.

I still need to get shoes, jewellery, tights and a shrug or a bolero as I want to cover up a bit at the reception but I don't want to wear all black as I am going to a wedding not a funeral! Any suggestions please?

p.s. I did read some place you shouldn't team black with colour as it makes the colour look brighter but I love colours like teal and peacock blue though... I would like to keep the outfit 50s style as well right down to the shoes but am thinking peep toes might not be wise in the snow :o(

well firstly i think that your dress sounds lovely, you are right about not putting colour with black - it is because black is very classy to wear but colours cheapen it. as for peep-toe heels - well i don't think they look good when the lady is wearing tights so i suggest a closed-toe shoe instead. i have created an outfit for you (dress and coat are obviously not the real items you have but they are there as an example): http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=16030...
Reply:Sometimes combining black and a bright colour can cheapen an outfit or make it look very young, but I think teal and dark blue are exceptions, so I would go for it. Or white or deep purple would work too. I think peep toes are really nice and you should be okay with them, as long as you won't be walking on grass.
Reply:it's sharp and outstanding to match the black dress with peacock blue or red jewelries / shoes. i think silver would be somewhat too much! for some ideas on elegant jewelries: http://www.looksonice.com/home.html

remember to wear pantyhoses to keep your legs warmer, some with patterns e.g. diamond shape would make your legs look more chariming and slimer: http://www.feelsonice.com/pantyhoses.htm...
Reply:i wore a black dress to my friends weeding and i wore gold with it ,, gold shoes braclet and black and gold bag ,, less is best .. but any colour will go with the black as we all no so really its about wats in the shopes that catches ur eye ,, id get bag and shoes first and then jewellery and a nice shawl in a bright colour ,, have a great time
Reply:To be honest i'd never wear black to a wedding, but that's just me. If you've got them diamonds always look nice with black.
Reply:50 style jewlery you could wear any color(s) you want because the dress is black
Reply:a cute bright clutch and long pearls. I see that working great. and a cute kitten heel.
Reply:May I ask why are you wearing black to a wedding
Reply:a long silver necklace with a big pendant of some sort maybe?
Reply:I would have to say that the shoes and jewelry are fair game since you're wearing a black outfit. I'd have to say that you should think about wearing red shoes and maybe using red accessories (I find the combination of black and red to be the most flattering). And plus, that is fairly 50s style!

If not, I would think peacock blue shoes would also go well with your black ensemble (although good luck trying to find shoes of that color!)

Also, you could use silver shoes or jewelry if you want to be more subdued.
